Action Plans

In order for our church to qualify as an official Green Sanctuary, the Green Sanctuary Program guidelines ask us to complete a total of twelve activities in four program areas which are explained in detail in their Manual. Our current progress is shown above on the Progress Meter. For each of these activities the EarthSpirit team has developed Action Plans.

The EarthSpirit team is actively working on completing at least twelve activities or projects (and maybe more!) spread over the four program elements. Some projects will be one time events, while others will be on going over a period of months.

Worship And Celebration - (Minimum of 2 projects) [ Learn More ]

  1. Hold "Prayers for Plants Hikes" [ Learn More ]
  2. Plan a Tu B Shevat Service devoted to the environment [ Learn More ]
  3. Conduct a lay-led, Earth Awareness worship service [ Learn More ]
  4. Assemble a series of Earth Awareness Week events [ Learn More ]

Religious Education - (Minimum of 2 projects) [ Learn More ]

  1. Hold an environmental film series or "Movie Night" [ Learn More ]
  2. Plan bimonthly (every other month) presentations by local experts [ Learn More ]
  3. Expand environmental topics in children’s RE [ Learn More ]
  4. Place an article ("Earthy Encouragements") in each Window newsletter [ Learn More ]
  5. Establish an EarthSpirit/Green Sanctuary webpage [ Learn More ]
  6. Conduct series of 3 Adult RE classes on household eco-actions [ Learn More ]

Sustainable Living - (Minimum of 4 projects) [ Learn More ]

  1. Make Bard Hall a “Green Building” [ Learn More ]
  2. Work towards a more environmentally friendly landscaping at church [ Learn More ]
  3. Conduct a campaign to promote earth-friendly food consumption [ Learn More ]
  4. Explore feasibility of installing solar power [ Learn More ]
  5. Conduct a campaign on resource reduction [ Learn More ]
  6. Revive and promote composting on campus [ Learn More ]
  7. Promote use of nontoxic cleaners [ Learn More ]
  8. Provide EarthSpirit Team representation on the Canyons Coalition [ Learn More ]
  9. Create educational information about improving car gas mileage [ Learn More ]
  10. Reach out to all First UU Church committees and groups to invite them to do one Earth-centered action or activity [ Learn More ]

Environmental Justice - (Minimum of 2 projects , one done together with a highly impacted community group) [ Learn More ]
